10 Content Ideas That Will Boost Your Blog

If blogging is part of your marketing strategy (and it should be), you probably run dry from time to time when it comes to finding topics to write about. Here are 10 ideas to jump start your brainstorming.

1. How-to Posts – People search for articles on how to do just about anything: write a blog post, fix a sink, get a job. You can probably think of several topics that you’re an expert on. Break down activities into easy-to-follow steps so you can provide real value to your readers.

2. Industry Trends – You’re on top of what’s happening in your field, so write intelligent posts with your insight on the latest news and trends in your industry.

3. Other Blogs – Reading other people’s blogs will get the wheels churning. While you don’t want to copy their ideas, you can use them as a jumping off point for your own content.

4. Top 10 Posts – Your readers want content they can quickly skim, and top 10 posts fit the bill. Find a theme, like this post, which centers around 10 content ideas. Remember to bold each subheader to divide your content and make it easy to read.

5. Social Conversations – Your social media network is a great place to find content ideas. Browse through your Twitter or G+ streams to see what the conversations are centering around, then riff on it.

6.  Holiday-Themed Content – As we approach the end of the year, you’ve got plenty of opportunity to use Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the New Year as themes for your content. But don’t forget other holidays! In addition to the typical holidays, there are also creative ones you can play with.

7. Different Lengths – Not every post needs to be the same 400-600 words. Vary it up. Try longer posts over 1,000 words, as those tend to draw more readers. You can also write a few shorter posts for variety.

8. Company News – Whenever you are interviewed or your company releases some news, write a blog post about it. If you’ve got a video of the interview, embed it in your post.

9. Surveys and Reports – Let other people and companies do the legwork in creating reports or surveys, then use those for your own content. Here’s an example of an article written around a mobile device study. Pick a few talking points and build your post around them.

10. Roundup – Sometimes it’s beneficial to build a post around past content. Write an overview, then link to all the posts you’ve written on a given topic. This makes it easy for your readers to easily access older posts that still hold value.
