A small business owner’s life can be a real roller coaster. There’s no road map, and pitfalls lurk around every corner. While making mistakes may be a great way to learn, it’s a lot better to avoid them in the first place.
Here's CorpNet's latest press release about the March 15 deadline to elect S Corp status. For a corporation filing taxes, March 15 is a critical tax deadline. But for a small business owner who has incorporated a business as a C Corporation or a Limited Liability Company (LLC), March 15 is also an important deadline, as it’s the last day to elect S Corporation status for the 2013 tax year.
In 2012, a year in which the world was supposed to end, several devastating events made many people question their faith in humanity. In the wake of destruction and despair, business owners all over the country came out of the woodwork to touch the lives of others via corporate giving. Some made large-scale donations; others focused their generosity on just one individual. But all of these advocates of business philanthropy chose to make a difference and made the world a little brighter.

It is the anniversary of 9/11 again. It was a time that no one will forget especially those caught up in the awful tragedy. So today, or in fact any day, take some time out to remember the people who died and their families who are surviving, but also remember the coming together of people to deal with the aftermath. Remember the cohesion of different nationalities working together to make a better place for the future. Remember that out of that decimation something bigger and better has been built. And realise it can be done.

CorpNet celebrated its third birthday on July 1, 2011! We thought you might like to go behind the scenes to learn more about Phil Akalp, one of the founders of the company.
July 1, 2012 was the 3rd anniversary of CorpNet opening for business. 3 years ago, we started our company with the goal of helping entrepreneurs start a business and manage their business filings. My husband Phil and I had been business partners before, in the "old days" of the Internet in 1997, but after a four-year hiatus we found that our industry of helping people incorporate a business online had radically changed. We started CorpNet at a very bad time in the economic climate - 2009 was the absolute depths of the Great Recession. Optimism and start-up capital and customers were in short supply, making it tough for a lot of would-be entrepreneurs to commit to starting a business. In this post I lay out the few lessons we've learned from being in business for three tumultuous but fun-filled years.

One of the things I love most about being a small business owner is the relationships I get to create over time with our small business employees. I love working with all of our CorpNet staff, but one of them has been with us longer than any of the others – she’s really more like a daughter to me than an employee, and she’s seen it all during her time at our company: so I’m pleased to put the “CorpNet staff spotlight” on Amanda Beren, our Senior Document Analyst.
